Fox lake Cree Nation will be hosting the 4th Heritage Gathering in York Factory on July 28 – August 2, 2010, if you are interested in visiting the historic site please leave your name and a contact number at the Gillam office at 652-5423.
As previous year Fox Lake will provide transportation to and from York Factory this includes Deer Island, a small camp will be set up in Deer for those traveling by boat, visitors have a choice if they are interested in staying on Deer Island before heading to York. Please be advised though depending on weather conditions visitors may not be able to go around to York until weather conditions improve and its safe. Accommodations are available in Deer and York along with meals. There is no cost to Fox Lake members for this event.
Mode of transportation:
Islander aircraft – open to elders and members with young children
Boats – Open to all (except children under the age of 8 years, or must have a parent/guardian present and waivers signed)
Helicopter – strictly open to elders with mobility problems only
Transportation will be available to transport members to and from Conawapa if you’re going by boat and to the airport if going by plane.
This is a drug and alcohol free event
Children/youth under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian
All visitors are to bring their own sleeping bags, pillows, rain gear, personal hygiene items, mat/cot, etc. You may bring your own tent.
Members residing outside the communities of Gillam and Bird interested in participating in this years gathering, are responsible for their own transportation to Gillam. Fox Lake cannot reimburse or cover any personal costs for those traveling in to Gillam/Bird from outside the community such as Winnipeg, Thompson, Churchill, etc.
Please be advised that waiver will need to be signed prior to being transported to Deer Island or York Factory by Boat or Plane.
